Through involvement with musical theatre at a young age, Charlie learned to sing in one of Bristol’s children’s choirs, but eventually drifted away from music as other commitments took over. Around the age of 14, however, Charlie developed an ear for jazz and hip-hop.This led to a newfound love for alternative R&B – a fusion of the genres he connected with most. Remembering his earlier musical experiences, he began teaching himself music production and songwriting in his bedroom. To shape his sound, Charlie studied and attempted to recreate his favourite tracks as accurately as possible, allowing him to pick up the vocal and sonic techniques typical of these R&B and soul styles.Nervous to release an original track, Charlie independently released a cover entitled ‘atomic vomit (demo)’ in early 2024 to strong public reception, amassing near 10,000 streams on Spotify alone. Encouraged by the support, he went on to collaborate with some of his closest friends, building his first album entitled ‘SURVEILLANCE’, which explored themes of loss and introspection, featuring the standout tracks ‘BANK’ and ‘VOICEMAIL’. The album was released later that summer.Charlie’s set at this year’s Harbour Festival offers an honest, soulful experience shaped by reflection, connection, and a love for music.
