Brunel's ss Great Britain
2010 is the 40th anniversary of the salvage and return to Bristol of Brunel's famous ss Great Britain
Against the dramatic backdrop of this historic ship, the surrounding area will be full of attractions and activities for all the family. Step back in time in the performance area and rediscover traditional entertainment and maritime crafts or marvel at the steam gallopers (back by popular demand), which are guaranteed to put a smile on faces young and old. Watch the traditional craftsmen, boat builders and ‘sea dogs’ in action as they share the skills and knowledge that made Britain great. Or check out ‘The Incredible Journey’, a new exhibition and family trail for the summer, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the ship’s return.
Visitors can join in with the sea shanties and dancing or simply watch the world go by, on land or water. Food will be available from the Dockyard Café Bar, where all profits go towards helping to care for the ss Great Britain, and the wet fish stall, which offers tasty fish treats to take home for tea.
