ss Great Britain
Brunel's ss Great Britain & BBC Radio Bristol
The ss Great Britain was launched in front of thousands of people in a packed and vibrant harbour 170 years ago, almost to the day of Bristol Harbour Festival (in fact, just one week before on 19th July 1843). Brunel's ss Great Britain, in partnership with BBC Radio Bristol, is recreating that electric, festival atmosphere in Brunel Square in 2013.
Families will be riveted by stories from Mr. Brunel; can climb into Wallace & Gromit's motorcycle and sidecar, dress up as Victorians for old-fashioned photo opportunities, indulge in traditional Cream Teas baked on board and much more.
Wander around a locally supplied market, eat tasty Paella overlooking the harbour until later in the Dockyard Café Bar, drink from a selection of real ales and organic ciders and dance along to twelve foot-stomping live bands at the stage throughout the weekend. To celebrate the 170th anniversary of the launch, Brunel's ss Great Britain will be partying like its 1843.
Join in the celebrations between 10am to 6pm both days, or relax in the café until later.
