On the water
This year’s festival will see a fabulous flotilla, including several stars of the recent BBC series ‘The Boats That Built Britain’ - the Matthew (Bristol’s famous replica of the ship that took John Cabot to the new world in 1497), HMS Pickle (a replica of the ship that brought news of the Battle of Trafalgar to the mainland) and the Bristol Channel Pilot Cutters.
For full programme information, see left column.
Other vessels include the Irene, built in 1907 and the last West Country trading ketch still under sail, and the Kathleen & May, a popular 31m-schooner and regular visitor to the festival.
Activities on the water throughout the day will include the popular Newfoundland dogs display, Boat Club Challenge, RNLI rescue display, steamboat parade, Pyronaut displays and sailing lessons.
